A local Fianna Fail TD is calling on the new EU agri commissioner to make sustaining rural Ireland one of his top priorities.

Phil Hogan is set to take up the role in Europe from next month after his nomination was approved in Brussels on Thursday

The budget for the role is approximately 60 billion and John Mc Guinness feels that the former Minister must use it to revitalise rural Ireland
