A local forecaster has recorded the strongest winds in Kilkenny since 2018 as Storm Darragh swept across the country.
Niall Dollard of Kilkenny Weather says it was the strongest in Kilkenny in recent years
He says it exceeded 100 kilometres per hour at his weather station in the City…
“Storm Darragh picked up about eight or nine o’clock in the evening as expected, and just around midnight, I recorded the gust of 104 kilometres per hour and this was the strongest gust that I had recorded since January 2018 so it was our strongest gust in almost seven years.”
“Storm Ophelia was a little bit before that again and that was greater again than Darragh, the storm last night, and even greater again than the big one, Storm Darwin from February 2014 was by far the biggest storm that we had in recent years.”
Last night’s gust of 104 km/hr was the highest locally since Jan 2018, when a gust of 114 km/hr was recorded during a squall. Before that we had 115 km/hr in Oct 2017 during Storm Ophelia and biggest of them all was Darwin in Feb 2014 with a red level gust of 133 km/hr.
