Local group calling on government to increase number of migrants the country will take in

A local group says it would be urging the government to increase the number of migrants they’re willing to take in.

‘Carlow Kilkenny Solidarity with Syria’ was set up as a group on Facebook less than a month ago by a Kilkenny-based woman and has already accumulated 200 members.

The first meeting of the group was held in Carlow yesterday evening to discuss ideas and to strategise on what they can do to help.

Speaking to KCLR, founder, Steph Hanlon says she believes Ireland can afford to take in more migrants than the 4,000 they’ve agreed to and that some could be relocated locally.
