The Carlow Beekeepers Association is thrilled that Minister Jennifer Murnane O’Connor took their honey abroad.
Shane Kavanagh, secretary of the association, told KCLR News that it’s wonderful for them to share their produce with other countries, and they’re delighted that their local minister thought of them.
They take great pride in their products, and while most of it is sold at farmers’ markets there’s some stores including health food stores that sell their honey. Speaking to KCLR news earlier Mr Kavanagh also said they’re working with NIHBS an organisation that’s trying to protect the dark European honey bee which is under threat. The organisation is trying to ban Importation of other subspecies that they believe dilutes their pure genetics.
