One local Labour councillor says he won’t be making any decision on who to back for the party leadership just yet.
Deputy Ann Phelan is backing Joan Burton for the job – she formally proposed her for the leaders role yesterday.
But Castlecomer’s Maurice Shorthall who is one of only 4 councillors returned for the party in Carlow and Kilkenny says he wants to see first who else will put themselves forward.
Willie Quinn from Borris says Joan Burton is the woman for the job and he would love to see her lead the party.
Candidates have until next Tuesday to put themselves forward for the role.
Alan Kelly, Michael McCarthy and Sean Sherlock have all announced their intention to run for the job of Deputy Leader.
