Local student could have to drop out of college

A local student may have no option only to drop out of third level education after being refused a maintenance grant.

19 year old Siphelele Mawuli from Tullow is a first year student in the Institute of Technology Carlow

She may have to call a halt to her education after the grant awarding body ‘SUSI’ refused her grant application claiming she “doesn’t meet the nationality requirements necessary to receive a grant”.

Siphelele, who is originally from South Africa has been living in Ireland for the last 13 years and has been granted her Irish citizenship.
