Local student in stable condition following stabbing last night

A local student is in a stable condition after being stabbed on a night out in Waterford last night.

The teenager was involved in a row on John Street at about 11 o’clock.

The 18-year-old had just started first year in Kildalton Agricultural College in South Kilkenny.

Last night, while queueing outside a nightclub on John Street in Waterford City, he got into an altercation with a man.

Gardaí say a second man then joined the row and local student – who’s understood to be from Carlow – was stabbed a number of times in the stomach.

Gardaí arrived on the scene at about 11.30 and he was taken to Waterford University Hospital.

He has now undergone surgery and is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Waterford Gardaí say no-one has been arrested yet but they are now going through CCTV footage from the area.
