A local TD has raised the need for the new 86-bed Dolmen Wing and a CT scanner at St Luke’s General Hospital in the Dáil.
Deputy Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere said both projects are urgently required to ease pressure on services and improve patient care in Kilkenny and the wider region.
He told the chamber the developments must be delivered without further delay, noting; “It’s vital to support patient flow the second CT for ST Luke’s will result in no doubt time allow specialised tests to be completed on site reducing the need for patients to be transferred to another hospital which results in long waiting times for appointments”.
Meanwhile, St St Luke’s General Hospital continues with its latest visitor restrictions.
The measure took effect on Friday in a bid to reduce the spread of Norovirus.
It includes one parent per child in paediatrics, one support person for each woman in maternity with ward managers deciding elsewhere while all turning up must wear a face mask.
