Local Vintners unconcerned after Wetherspoon confirm they want to open in Carlow

The chairman of the Carlow Vintners says he’s neither surprised nor worried by the news that Weatherspoon are planning a move to Carlow.

The UK pub chain have confirmed to KCLR that they are trying to find a suitable site in the town.

KCLR News understands that staff from the UK head office have been in Carlow today looking at a premises on Tullow street.

Former Vintners Federation President Gerry Mellet says they only be competing for a limited section of the local pub trade and can’t match the atmosphere or variety of Irish pubs.
