Locals compete at ‘Skills Olympics’ from today

Two locals are in Abu Dhabi today to represent Ireland in the World Skills Competition.

Known as the ‘skills Olympics’, it’s the world’s largest professional education event and will see about 1,200 competitors from 68 countries taking part.

From Kilkenny, apprentice Eoin Shortall and trainee Kathryn Leahy will take part in the welding and restaurant service competitions.

It runs from today until Thursday the 19th.
