Locals concerned over Waterways Ireland proposal for new path on Barrow track
Waterways Ireland is planning to build a new path along the Barrow River from Goresbridge to St Mullins to make it accessible for cyclists.
The idea for the cycle trail however is causing controversy with many locals expressing concern that the character of the Barrow track would be destroyed.
Waterways Ireland says it is not in favour of a full-scale cycle path and would support the development of a multi-use trackway that could be used by walkers, anglers and cyclists.
Waterways Ireland has agreed to apply for planning permission for the upgrade and work is at a very early stage but the application could go ahead by early 2015.
Local man Billy Hoare told KCLR that he thinks its a bad idea and will destroy the area..
