Mairead Mc Guiness appointed as EU Commissioner
She's taking over the Financial Services Portfolio, following the resignation of Kilkenny man Phil Hogan

The European Parliament has backed the appointment of Mairead Mc Guinness as EU Commissioner.
The Fine Gael MEP will take over the Financial Services portfolio.
MEPs approved her appointment by an overwhelming majority today, 583 votes in favour with just 75 against.
She replaces Kilkenny man Phil Hogan as the Irish commissioner, after he resigned following the Golfgate controversy.
