Fires and Rescue services are to be upgraded in our locality.
Major progress on a new fire station for Kilkenny City is a step closer with an allocation of €10m in funding announced today by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne.
A three-acre site has now been secured at the Kilkenny Business and Retail Park on the Waterford Road.
The new project will replace the Gaol Road station with a modern, purpose-built headquarters.
It’s expected to significantly boost emergency response capacity in the region.
Bagenalstown fire station has also been allocated €2.8m for upgrade works.

Leas Ceann Comhairle John McGuinness told KCLR News that the new Kilkenny Headquarters is badly needed. He spoke to KCLR News’ Martin Quilty.
