A local community’s marking something of a victory today as a long-awaited school bus has hit the road.
The Gowran School Bus Group’s third dedicated service became fully operational this morning marking a significant success for those in and around the area who’ve long fought for it.
They say it’s already providing a vital link for over 100 families, ensuring students have safe, reliable transport to school.
Chairperson Brendan Hayes expressed immense gratitude to those who championed the cause noting; “This is a huge win for the people of Gowran. We are incredibly proud to see the bus on the road today. It wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless work of our supporters. We want to extend a special note of thanks to TD John McGuinness and his staff for their hard work and unwavering support throughout this process. We also sincerely thank Natasha Newsom Drennan for her support and advocacy.”
The group also extended their best wishes to the partners keeping the wheels turning, saying “We want to wish Bus Éireann and Joe O’Neill Coaches all the very best with the new service. We especially want to thank the drivers who turn up with a warm welcome for the kids every single morning; that personal touch makes all the difference to the families.”
Finally, the committee highlighted the role of the media in keeping the campaign in the public eye and in particular say “We want to thank KCLR’s Dermot Keyes for his ongoing coverage and support. His interest in our story ensured our voices were heard. Our thanks also go to all the news outlets, including the Kilkenny People, who helped bring this campaign to its successful conclusion.”
With the bus now in daily operation, the Gowran School Bus Group looks forward to a long and successful service for the village’s families.
