A man is being questioned in connection with a serious assault in Carlow at the weekend.

The man in his 30’s was arrested in the Carlow area yesterday evening.

It follows the discovery on Sunday afternoon of a woman in her 50’s who had been left unconscious in the grounds of Pollerton Castle.

Speaking to KCLR News Superintendent Gerry Redmond had this update on the investigation:

“That male was arrested at 6.15 yesterday evening and is currently being detained in Carlow Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and he can be detained for a period of up to 24 hours, depending on how investigations go.

“In the meantime, it’s very important from an appeals point of view – we don’t want the public to lose sight that we’re still looking for help from the public. Just because we have someone in custody doesn’t mean that we’re not continuing with our investigations.”
