Man charged with murder of Mairead Moran

A 27 year old man has been charged with the murder of 26 year old Mairead Moran in Kilkenny on Thursday evening.

Shane Smyth with an address at Flat 3 Mc Guinness House, Evans Lane in Kilkenny city appeared before Judge Eamon O’ Brien at a special sitting of Kilkenny district court this afternoon.

He’s been remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Friday the 16th of May.

The judge has ordered that a full medical and psychiatric assessment be carried out on Shane Smyth in the coming days.
