Mental Health Minister invited to Kilkenny in light of recent court case against local DOP

The Minister with responsibility for Mental Health, Jim Daly, has been asked to come to Kilkenny.

It’s after the HSE was fined in court for breaching the Mental Health Act at St Luke’s Department of Psychiatry this week.

Mental Health Commission inspectors said they were shocked by the unacceptable conditions they found there.

Local Junior Minister John Paul Phelan says there’s still a lot of work to be done. He told KCLR the services simply have to be improved.

Meanwhile, a gathering to promote positive mental health will take place in Kilkenny’s Club House Hotel this evening.

It’s been organised by Minister Phelan and the speakers include Olympic boxer, Kenneth Egan, and Mary McTiernan of the GRASP Life Foundation.
