€5.8 million has been allocated to our locality to upgrade the energy efficiency of social houses.
The funding is part of a €140 million national retrofit programme announced by Minister for Housing James Browne.
Carlow will receive an allocation of €3.4 million while Kilkenny will get €2.4 million.
Senior Exec Enginner with Carlow County Council Niall Barrett told KCLR News what kind of upgrades will be done. “The type of works that we get carried out on our own housing stock include installation upgrades, windows and doors upgrades, heating system upgrades so it just allows our own social housing stock to be improved.”
“Now obviously the number of houses that we would have on our own stock would be far greater than that being allocated for this coming year in 2026, but we have been tackling this retrofit system the past number of years and we’ll continue to do so with the funding that’s been provided to us.”
