Motion to suspend work on the Kilkenny Central Access Scheme defeated
The motion to suspend work on the Kilkenny Central Access Scheme bridge has been defeated meaning work will continue.
It was put forward there by 3 Councillors, Breda Gardiner, Malcolm Noonan and Kathleen Funchion.
A vote was taken at a special meeting of the county council today with 5 voting for it, 17 against it and 2 people were absent.
The meeting was told that the cost of delays to the Central Access Scheme has been put at 419 thousand so far.
Acting County Manager John Mulholland says the cost of the delays is due to the nature of the obstructions to the project and the requirement of the contracts to get their own security which wasnt anticipated.
John Mulholland says he objects to the motion and also rejects that members were not properly informed about the project.
