Motorway service station for Mullinavat to go ahead

It looks like Mullinavat is about to get a jobs boost with a new motorway service area to be built along the local stretch of the M9.

The latest development to get the go ahead is just off Exit 11.

An application was lodged with Kilkenny County Council back in July for a 24-hour service area off the M9 at Garrandarragh, Mullinavat – which is just off Exit 11.

Planning permission has now been granted for the development which will include a fuel station with 12 normal bays and 2 for HGV’s; a convenience store; and a food court with a café and restaurants – including take away facilities.

Also included in the plans are an indoor play area, tourist information, public toilets, changing and shower facilities, along with various offices.

Outside of the building will be picnic, play, amenity and rest areas, with bicycle parking, car and HGV parking as well – along with charging points for electric cars.

The service area will be the newest of 3 along the local stretch of motorway with one already open in Paulstown since December 2015 and another that opened in Tinryland last April.
