New speed zones across Carlow and Kilkenny come into effect on Thursday

21 new speed camera zones has been identified locally as part of a nationwide expansion of mobile safety cameras, starting January 1st.

390 new safety camera zones will become operational from Thursday bringing the total number of safety camera zones nationwide to 1,901.

12 of those zones are in Kilkenny while 9 are in Carlow with the purpose of trying to reduce speed-related collisions, lessen injuries and save lives.

To date in 2025, there have been 186 road deaths. Tragically, this is the highest level of road deaths on Irish roads in over a decade.
