New system will allow you pay court fines in your local shop
Locals will soon be able to pay a court fine while doing their weekly shopping.
A new plan being introduced by the Courts Service will see 10 retail outlets across Carlow and Kilkenny in a position to accept payment of fines.
The system will require that every court venue in the country have 5 separate retail outlets that can accept the fine payments.
As Carlow and Kilkenny only have one court venue each it will mean 5 businesses in each county will be able to sign up for the initiative.
One of the objectives of the new legislation is to reduce the number of people sent to prison each year and will allow people pay by instalment.
