New train services could be coming to Carlow

Iarnród Éireann's new timetable is under public consultation but if realised would see a number of additional timings from the 10th of December

Carlow’s proposed extra train services are wildly welcomed.

Iarnród Éireann’s new timetable is under public consultation but if realised would see a number of additional timings from the 10th of December, including one each way between Carlow town and Dublin.

Carlow Chamber hails it as a positive move for the town and county, and a spokesperson told KCLR News that it should increase local business accessibility and improve their markets on a larger scale.

While Deputy Jennifer Murnane O’Connor also says it’s great news:

“I’m absolutely delighted. It’s an issue that I have been highlighting for years now. We need extra trains coming to Carlow. This is only a proposal from Irish Rail, but I believe it’s really good. And people still have a week if they want to make a submission. So the proposal is that the train will leave Dublin at 20 past 12 from Dublin to Carlow every day now, which is so important. And from 3.15 pm, there will be the extra train stopping in Carlow to go on to Dublin.”
