The difference between what the HSE pays per resident in its own nursing homes in Carlow and Kilkenny and what is paid in the private sector is shocking and unexplainable.
That’s according to Nursing Homes Ireland, who are highlighting the issues after the HSE agreed to publish the figures recently.
The Sacred Heart home in Carlow is costing €1,171 a week per resident while the private sector in Carlow gets €842 on average – a 39% difference.
Kilkenny’s figures are 67% higher – with St Columba’s Hospital costing €1,458 a week per resident compared to €873 in a private home.
Speaking to KCLR News, the NHI’s Tadhg Daly says this is ridiculously unfair on the private sector as they try to provide the same level of care.
