The Eclectic Light Programme

The Eclectic Light Programme: Interview: ¡NO! (17/7/2015)

¡NO! is Fergus Cullen (guitar, sax, clarinet, other woodwinds, piano), LRC (bass), Jamie Davis (drums), and Graham Montgomery (guitar, Roland Handsonic, effects, keys, percussion, noises).

¡NO! are a Dublin based group with Kilkenny connections and there’s where the normal comparisons end. They mine and work a rich seam of music, with collective and individual influences and a clear stated objective of forging their own music at the time it happens. While they have released a CD it is primarily a capturing of the moment in which they played and continue to thrive. This is experimental, brave and spontaneous music played with an eye (and ear) to each other and the response of the live audience. Happenstance plays a part with each player driving or holding the beat, the melody line or the next thread to a new place.

The press response has been exceptional:

While the CD has been receiving great reviews there is no substitute for the live experience.

They are visiting Kilkenny on Saturday July, 25th in Cleere’s Theatre with support from legendary band Rigmarole.

Ron and Jamie popped in to chat and between coffee, tea and conversations off air, eventually we sat down to hear what they feel about the music they create.

You can get more information on the band at their Bandcamp page
