An extension to the cemetery in Bagenalstown is a step closer.
At their monthly meeting Councillor Michael Doran looked for an update – he was told a tender will be sought in January and its hoped to have the works completed by early June.
This would allow for over 1,200 new plots, a columbarium and 41 car parking spaces.
Cllr Doran told KCLR News the addition is much needed, noting; “The current graveyard is obviously reaching almost capacity now and new graves in particular are getting very scarce now to be opened so this is going on for the past two years that we’ve been looking for this to be extended so it’s welcome news that by the summertime, all going well, that the extension will be ready”.
