With flowing tributes to the late Paul Walker all weekend, Furious 7 has blazed a trail at global box offices. Walker was killed in a high speed car crash during filming in 2013 and with elements of the film re-written (including, I’m guessing, the ending), Walkers brothers stepped in as body doubles to complete production.
Peter Jackson’s CGI house was responsible for mapping Walker’s every nuance to the faces of his brothers to complete the scenes.
While the film marks the end of Walker’s character – officially being retired as a family man – the introduction of Jason Statham and Kurt Russell lend fuel to the fire that there will be an unprecedented eighth movie for the franchise, potentially set in New York.
US box office takings for the Easter weekend were almost $150m and when coupled with European box office figures, the opening weekend looks to have grossed over €250m.
Furious 7 is currently showing at IMCs Carlow and Kilkenny.
