The Kilkenny Association of An Taisce has told KCLR News that they’re outraged after 4 trees were cut down today in the Peace Park in the City.
Kilkenny County Council says the trees had been earmarked to be removed for the construction of a new bridge and were not taken down because of storm damage.
They were due to be removed last week but didn’t go ahead because of poor weather, however four new semi mature trees are to be planted in the area instead.
Chairman of An Taisce in Kilkenny Declan Murphy claims that the Central Access Scheme has not yet cleared all planning hurdles regarding the Vicar Street houses so the trees shouldn’t have been touched.
