Carlow and Kilkenny people in financial difficulty and who have not paid tax on their second home tax are being asked to contact the council.
The NPPR payment was brought in five years ago to target landlords and holiday home owners – but has now been replaced by the general property tax.
Anyone who misses Sunday night’s deadline could have to pay up to seven thousand euro – almost double the original charge.
The Local Government Management Agency says if people in hardship come forward before Sunday – payment arrangements can be made.
