Eugene Downes was born and raised in Dublin in a family that was steeped in the arts. Following his time at university he was appointed to the diplomatic service which involved work within the Northern Ireland peace process and a spell in Russia as cultural attaché.
He returned to the arts and was a broadcaster for a time on Lyric FM before leaving to pursue a career as an Arts Consultant. This has led him to a number of high profile ventures both at home and abroad and in recent years to his appointment as CEO of Culture Ireland.
He was appointed as Director of the Kilkenny Arts Festival and is very busy in preparing for the 2014 event so it was great to catch up with him to find about more about and his musical tastes.
