People who use ‘dodgy boxes’ to illegally stream TV and films here could be fined or publicly named.
It comes as Italy and Greece have introduced systems which fine users of the devices.
Distributors of the technology, which allows people to access illegal streaming, have been the main target of enforcement operations in Ireland – including a retailer in Kilkenny.
The Federation Against Copyright Theft targeted retailers ‘enabling access’ to illegal TV streaming services as part of a major enforcement campaign between August and September 2025.
The joint operation by FACT and Sky led to legal notices being issued in counties- Kilkenny, Kerry, Louth, Laois, Mayo, Donegal, Wexford, Meath and Cavan.
