A substantial number of animals are believed to have been killed in a large fire in Bagenalstown on Thursday.
Gardaí and the local Fire Service were called to the blaze at a pig farm in Monemore at around 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
It’s believed the fire was quickly brought under control but a large number of the pigs who had been inside the building when it caught fire died from smoke inhalation.
KCLR News understands the Health and Safety Authority and EPA were also alerted but it’s not being treated as suspicious.
