The Carlow Fire Chief said a recent international exchange with fire chiefs from the US and Sweden was a very worthwile exercise.
The visit, linked to the Pan Celtic Festival, brought together services from Carlow’s sister cities in Tempe, USA and to Troll Hatton in Sweeden to discuss common challenges.
He said the visitors were impressed with Carlow’s training facilities, and plans are now in place to continue working together.
Chief Woodhouse told KCLR News there is a lot of similarities between all three:
“Although there are differences if for example in relation to climates Tempe is in a desert in Arizona and the climates would be very different to that in County Carlow and the topography of Fyrbodal operational area would differ to Carlow but apart from that we found so many similarities between the three fire and rescue services and particularly the modern-day challenges that we face as a fire and rescue service.”
