Plans to amalgamate library services in Carlow and Kilkenny appear to have been scrapped.
A statement from IMPACT trade union says the council have “effectively abandoned library amalgamation plans”
At a meeting of the local authority national council on Wednesday, the local government management agency confirmed the issue of library amalgamations in certain counties – including Carlow & Kilkenny – is no longer a matter of principle with them.
A statement from IMPACT trade union says it will await written confirmation of the decision, which includes a commitment to fill vacant county librarian posts.
KCLR news understands that this decision will bring with it full time positions in both Carlow and Kilkenny libraries.
Talks about amalgamating library services in Carlow and Kilkenny began in 2014 – and this announcement comes after staff at the libraries had voted in favour of industrial action.
