Popular Kilkenny pub Matt The Millers is celebrating its milestone 30th anniversary tomorrow (Monday).
It first opened it’s doors in 1996 with Co-owners Brendan Treacy and Ray Brophy growing the business from a single small bar into a multi-floor venue that now serves as a major local employer.
Brendan Treacy spoke to KCLR and said they’re delighted to be still on the go despite the challenges that the sector faces, “It’s been a great journey with some fabulous people. I mean, when Ray Brophy and I started out, we didn’t expect to still be here in the space in John Street. It feels more like 13 years rather than 30 years.”
“We enjoy it, but there are lots of challenges in business for anybody, for butchers, bakers, farmers, whatever sector you’re in. And I think it’s more relevant than ever that people have an opportunity to go out.”
