Project to restore St Mary’s Cathedral €3 million in debt

€3.9 million euro has been spent on the restoration of St Mary’s Cathedral in Kilkenny City to date.

However, KCLR News has learned that just €900,000 (€0.9 million) has been raised by the Diocese of Ossory for the project – leaving a debt of €3 million.

The money has been spent on a number of areas of the Cathedral’s restoration including the windows, the sacristy and the Chapter House.

Original estimates suggest that it could take 10 years to finish and that the total cost of restoring the Cathedral could reach up to 15 million euro.
