Public meeting organised calling for action to combat effects of austerity on mental health

Not nearly enough is being done to combat the effects austerity has had on people’s mental health.
That’s according to Carlow People Before Profit member, Adrienne Wallace who was speaking ahead of a public meeting on the subject taking place next week.
The theme is ‘Mental Health and Austerity’ and the gathering will be addressed by guest-speaker child psychiatrist Peadar O’Grady.
Speaking to KCLR News this morning, Adrienne says that there’s been a noticeable increase in the amount of suicides since the recession hit.
The meeting is taking place at 7.30 on the 6th of July in Reddy’s Bar, Tullow Street.
