More public toilets needed to tackle problem of public urination in Kilkenny City

The availability of public toilets in Kilkenny City is coming under fresh scrutiny as people say they’re sick of seeing drunk people urinating in the streets at the weekends.

A KCLR listener reported seeing a number of young men urinating against cars in the carpark outside MacDonagh Junction on Saturday night gone.

Pat Crotty of the Vintners Federation and owner of Paris Texas in the city says it’s a common occurrence everywhere, not just in Kilkenny.

And he told KCLR Live this morning that the lack of public facilities is something he knows all about as he says his premises seems to be used as the “public toilets for High Street”.

Meanwhile, caller, Denis says drink is behind most of this kind of anti-social behaviour, especially around John’s Street.

He says the Gardaí should perhaps do more to prevent pubs and hotel bars from serving people who are already drunk.
