A local councillor is calling for a list of derelict buildings across Carlow.
At their recent monthly meeting, John Cassin asked the council to put pressure on the owners of derelict buildings to either repair them or have them demolished.
This follows the recent removal of a building on Shamrock Square due to safety concerns.
Cllr Cassin says that there are many potential uses for such properties.
“You can build houses, you can build shops, apartments, and, you know, you have people that are organically living in the areas, and, you know, things become safer in an area as well because people are living there and it’s not down there,” said Councillor Cassin.
“It just brightens up a whole area when you have a derelict building, and I suppose you can see that where the work’s been happening on Dublin Street, where there’s five new businesses now on Dublin Street in the last year, which is fabulous news, because there’s a little bit of an effort being put into the town,” he added.
