Reports of local gangs intimidating shopkeepers in Kilkenny are on the rise

Shopkeepers across Kilkenny are being intimidated by local gangs.

Councillor David Fitzgerald says groups of youths are stealing from shops and intimidating staff.

The issue was raised at this month’s Joint Policing Committee meeting.

Councillor Fitzgerald says there has been a significant increase in this type of behavior locally:

“We’ve seen a significant increase in the numbers. Gardaí and elected members refer to groups of young people who are coming into stores, they’re going around on bicycles and other forms of transport around the city and they’re frightening and intimidating shopkeepers.”
