Carlow forward Conor Crowley has praised the team’s collective performance following their opening Allianz Football League Division 4 victory over Antrim in Portglenone.
Joe Murphy’s side got their league campaign off to a winning start with a hard-fought 2-16 to 1-15 success, showing composure and resilience away from home.
Crowley highlighted the spread of scorers as a major positive, with several players stepping up at key moments throughout the contest.
Chris Blake was Carlow’s standout scorer on the day, finishing with 1-4, while Ross Dunphy delivered an outstanding all-round performance in challenging personal circumstances. Dunphy lined out for his county just days after the passing of his father Martin.
Speaking after the game, Crowley said the victory carried added significance for the group, as they looked to honour the Dunphy family during a difficult week.
“You’re always going to have lads stepping up. I thought Chris today was excellent, it’s great to have him back involved. Ross especially, after the week he’s had, was fantastic. I know he got two points, but his all-around game was unbelievable. We wanted to get a result for him and the Dunphy family. It’s been a really tragic week — Martin was an amazing man — so to get a result today was special.”
