Rower Inistioge are through to the Kilkenny Intermediate Hurling Championship Final after an impressive 4-20 to 23-point victory over Lisdowney.
Richie Leahy played a major role in the win, scoring two of Rower Inistioge’s four goals as they secured their place in the county decider.
Speaking afterwards, Leahy said the result was the reward for months of hard work and a belief that has grown within the group throughout the year.
“It was tough. There were times I was out on my feet. I couldn’t catch my breath. We’re after training hard, we’ve been training since January.
“Murty came in with his selectors and kind of built a belief with us that we lost over the years.
“Game by game we started growing confidence and here we are now in a county final.”
Rower Inistioge last won the Kilkenny Intermediate Championship in 2013, when they defeated Emeralds in the final.
That success went on to become a memorable run for the club, as they also claimed the Leinster Intermediate title before going on to win the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling Championship.
They now have the opportunity to add another Kilkenny Intermediate title to their honours list.
Standing in their way will be James Stephens, who booked their place in the final with a 1-18 to 1-7 victory over Tullogher-Rosbercon.
The two sides will now meet in the Kilkenny Intermediate Hurling Championship Final.
