Saoirse stuns on red carpet, but no Oscars joy for the Ardattin actress

There was no joy for Saoirse Ronan at the Oscars last night.

Brie Larson who was hotly tipped by many to collect the Best Actress prize did just that for her role in Room.

At just 21 years of age its the second Academy Award nomination for Ardattin native Saoirse.

But while she may not have collected the statuette, she wowed on the red carpet in an emerald green Calvin Klein creation.

Meanwhile Leonardo DiCaprio has finally won his Oscar – 22 years after he was first nominated.

He won for his role in The Revenant, which also bagged best director.

Best picture went to Spotlight.

The Irish film Stutterer won in the the best live action short, category.

Singer Sam Smyth won best original song for the Bond theme Writing’s On The Wall.
