Search to resume for a gun dumped in Carlow

The search is resuming in Carlow this morning for a firearm used in a post office raid yesterday.
Two men remain in custody this morning in Carlow and Thomastown Garda stations.

They were arrested shortly after an armed robbery in Leighlinbridge Post Office which happened at 10am on Tuesday morning.
Acting on information given after a public appeal was made on KCLR, members of the Gardaí chased the pair on foot through fields and through the River Burren outside Carlow Town before eventually catching up with them.
However it’s believed the culprits threw a gun they had used to threaten the postmaster into the River during the chase and a search got underway yesterday afternoon involving members of the Garda Water Unit.
That search is resuming this morning and lands close to the river bank are also being searched.
In the meantime you’re asked to contact the Gardaí if you come across anything resembling a firearm in the Ballinacarrig area and you’re being warned not to touch it.
