The regulation of online platforms will be discussed by the Joint Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport later today.
Representatives from An Garda Síochána, Media Literacy Ireland, Hope and Courage Collective and the Institute for Strategic Dialogue will all be involved.
Committee member Green Party Senator and Carlow Kilkenny Green Party representative Malcolm Noonan says there’ll be a focus on safety, telling KCLR News; “The Committee considers and continues to consider issues of online safety and appaling acts by X, the former Twitter platform, as well, these are becoming very, very serious issues that need to be addressed from a legislative point of view and I think the Committee’s work is important in informing the Oireachtas of best ways forward”.
