Sinn Fein MEP Kathleen Funchion has said that the Dáil needs to get on with its work, and the opposition needs to find other ways to disrupt the Government over the speaking rights row.
Ms. Funchion was reacting after another week of heated exchanges in the Dáil over the row.
The Ireland South MEP says the intial row over Independent TD’s, who support the Goverment, being given opposition speaking time was understandable, saying that “the only way to get the point across, was to be disruptive.”
Speaking with KCLR News, Ms. Funchion then noted that at present, “things need to move on.”
“People need to figure out different ways, I know for example this week it was announced that opposition would take back their pairing agreement with government, and I think that’s a clever move, because that’s a real thing you can do that does cause a problem for them, but its not being disruptive.”
“If those scenes continue for much longer, people are going to be looking in thinking ‘What’s going on? Why isn’t the Dáil being more productive?’, and I think people won’t have tolerance for it.”
