The countdown’s on to the official start of the local festival season.
Smithwick’s Kilkenny Roots kicks it all off on the 1st to 4th May and last night organisers launched the programme, bursting with rockabilly, americana, honk-a-tonk, indie folk pop and more.
A host of city venues are gearing up to stage gigs with a music trail offering everything from Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and voice actress Grey DeLisle (Daphne in Scooby-Doo and Azula in Avatar) to The Walkabouts frontman Chris Eckman.
On the go since 1988, the Roots is a staple favourite for many locally and draws quite the crowd for its four-day spread.
Martin Bridgeman was at last night’s gathering and among those he spoke to were Diageo Ireland Account Executive Aidan Maher and local musician Elise Ramsbottom who’s on the bill …
