It’s a bittersweet weekend for businesses across Kilkenny and Carlow.
Some long-standing institutions are saying goodbye while others celebrate major milestones.
In Kilkenny City, Rossiter Shoe Repairs on the Butterslip has closed its doors after 38 years in business.
Their online shop however will continue to operate.
Elsewhere in the city, there’s cause for celebration. The Pumphouse on Parliament Street is marking its 30th anniversary. The popular pub first opened on the 29th of November, 1995, and a full weekend of festivities is planned.
In Thomastown, O’Keeffes Daybreak closes today as owners Catherine and Paudie retire after 35 years serving the community. The shop itself has been a fixture in the town since 1911.
And in Carlow, another institution is drawing the curtain. Reddy’s Bar and Restaurant on Tullow Street will close today after decades of service to the community, marking the end of an era for many local customers.
