St Luke’s General Hospital for Carlow and Kilkenny is holding its annual ‘Never Forgotten’ remembrance service later.
It takes place at St Fiacre’s Church, Loughboy from 7:30pm, offering families a space to remember children lost during pregnancy, shortly after birth, or in early childhood.
Candles will be lit in memory of those lost.
Bereavement midwife Debbie Tarleton told KCLR News that the event provides comfort and support, saying; “It’s hugely important, it may be the one time during the year when little baby’s name might be mentioned, it might be very difficult to speak about them throughout the year but it’s just to mark how important this little life was regardless of at what stage during pregnancy this little baby passed away, it’s just really important to be able to acknowledge that they were important and to remember them and what’s really powerful is everybody being under the roof for the same reason at the same time, there’s something very powerful in the room on the evening, it’s lovely”.
