A stretch of the N80 in County Laois is closed this morning following a fatal road crash involving a pedestrian and a car.
It’s due to a road traffic incident at Crannagh, Stradbally which happened just after 10:30pm last night (Sunday, 23rd February).
A man aged in his seventies who was walking was pronounced dead at the scene and removed to Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise where a post mortem examination is due to take place.
The female driver of the vehicle involved, who’s aged in her thirties, was not injured.
The route has been closed while a technical exam is carried out there with local diversions in place.
Witnesses to the incident are asked to contact Gardaí, in particular if they have camera footage and were travelling in the area between 10:30pm & 11pm to make it available to them.
